Elections 2012: Sports Captain (Male)

I believe that I am well placed to take the role of Sports Captain. Having captained the Medic
Rugby team to their most successful season to date, I know what it takes to run an efficient, well
organised medic club. I have worked closely with previous Sports Captains, and as such have a clear
understanding of what the role entails. Aside from prowess on the field, I have attended no less than
seven SCDs, leaving me with an encyclopaedic fancy dress repertoire. A few key points-

•Medics’ Fresh- Playing medic sport has been the best decision I have made at university;
I would like to convince freshers that medic sport is a serious, professional alternative to
university sport
• Ensure teams receive the funding they require to develop fruitfully
• Provide another memorable Nantes- having already been away twice, I know what is
required
• Build on Mike and Emily’s successful Sport’s Awards.

Hi! We (Clare Smith and Rakan Kabariti) are running for Galenicals Sports Captains for 2012 – 2013 and would like you to vote for us!

We’ve always been involved in sports especially during our time at medical school. Through medics sports, we certainly had one of the best experiences as they provided us with an opportunity to make new friends, meet medics from all years and take part in a variety of fascinating events all whilst playing the sports we really enjoy.

Right, so over the past years we’ve noticed a couple of things that we would like to improve/add:
Socials
- Sports Night dinners is a definite yes! At least one each term.
- Rounders with a BBQ in summer would be a great way for medics from all years to get together and enjoy the weather.
- Encourage a get-together meal for each sports team (Nandos?)
- NANTES 2013

Medics Fresh
- Work with other members of the galenicals team to set the medics fresher’s date to a more convenient one so everyone can sign up for their favourite sport.
- Try to get everyone from all years involved (the more the merrier!).

Charity
- Organise charity led events for all sports teams.
- Bristol 10K and/or Bath 10K would be a great shout!

Funds
- Fair allocation of funds depending on numbers and expenditure.
- Work on refunding (Fully) the players’ travel expenses to tournaments such as NAMS (we know its been an issue for quite a while).
- Sponsorships.

Tournaments
- Work on organising tournaments/one-off games with other unis such as Manchester, Cardiff etc..…For all the medics sports.
